New TTU Campus Pictures - 1/25/2009 Edition

There are a couple of new "New TTU Campus Pictures" threads over at Raider Power. One group was taken on Friday and the newest one was taken Sunday afternoon.

The newest group features shots of the new pedestrian bridge that is near the northwest corner of Jones AT&T Stadium and crosses the Marsha Sharp Freeway. Construction crews have nearly completed installing the new railing/fence on the bridge.

Unfortunately, someone has already tagged the ramps at the north end of the bridge with graffiti. This will probably be an on-going problem.

The other two pedestrian bridges are now open to foot and bike traffic. One is near the new 9th Street Bridge and the other is located where Indiana Avenue once crossed the old Brownfield Highway. Railings will also be installed on those bridges at some point.

There is only one wing that remains standing of the old Thompson/Gaston Hall complex and that won't be there for long. I would be surprised if anything was still standing in that location by the end of the month.

The new 9th Street Bridge that will connect the south and north parts of campus should be open by the end of this month or early February. The bridge will eliminate a lot of congestion that is currently plaguing campus.

There is also a large construction area around Memorial Circle right now as crews are putting in a new maintenance tunnel on the east side of the circle. The tunnel will run from the northeast corner of the Administration Building to Holden Hall. Traffic has been re-routed around Memorial Circle and can only be accessed through Boston Avenue.

I hope everyone enjoys the pictures and be sure and leave any comments or questions.

New TTU Campus Pictures - 1/16/2009

Here is another small group of shots from around campus. The entire group can be viewed in the usual thread over at Raider Power.

This group includes shots of the women's softball complex, the Thompson/Gaston Hall demolition, the new 9th Street Bridge that crosses the Marsha Sharp Freeway, and the new leisure pool at the rec center.

The new dugouts have been completed at the Rocky Johnson softball complex for the women's softball team. A new structure that will house indoor batting cages for the team is also being constructed just outside outfield fence near the the right field foul pole. A team building is also in the planning stages in the area near the left field foul pole.

There is just over a full wing of Thompson Hall still standing as the Thompson/Gaston demolition is nearing completion. A large hole is all that remains of Gaston Hall. The site is being cleared for the new Business Administration Building.

The new 9th Street Bridge that will cross the Marsha Sharp Freeway and connect the north part of the campus with the south portion is nearing completion. The bridge is located to the northwest of the Thompson/Gaston Hall area and will connect with Indiana Avenue just south of the International Cultural Center.

New TTU Campus Pictures - 1/13/2009 Edition

This is a small group of shots taken around campus today. They include phase two of the John Walker soccer complex, the Livermore Auditorium renovation in Engineering, and the Jones AT&T Stadium east side renovation. The entire group of pictures can be seen in a thread over at Raider Power.

The current phase of the women's soccer field renovation includes a new building for lockerrooms and team offices. A fence surrounding the field has also been installed along with netting to stop shots that miss the goal. When all the renovations are complete, the John Walker complex may be the best in the Big 12.

The renovation of the Livermore Auditorium in Engineering has been completed. Touch up work is taking place on the interior of the building.

There is still not whole lot of activity on the east side renovation at Jones AT&T Stadium. The trees that used to line the east side stands have been removed and the renovation area has been cleaned out. It appears work could start an any time.
Please feel free to leave any comments or questions.

New TTU Campus Pictures – 1/7/2009 Edition

I have posted a new group of pictures from the Texas Tech University campus and surrounding area over at Raider Power.

This group includes shots of the Marsha Sharp Freeway near the campus, the Thompson/Gaston Hall demolition, the east side renovation of Jones AT&T Stadium, and the North Overton area.

The Daily Toreador has a story today about all the construction around campus.

The freeway section that is near the TTU campus is scheduled to be completed late this summer, so there is some light at the end of the tunnel. The new ninth street bridge is scheduled to open by the end of the month, while the Univeristy Avenue bridge over the freeway should fully become operation in the near future.

The new pedestrian bridge near the Ninth street Bridge is now open, but the pedestrian bridge near the stadium is closed for two weeks while crews install the barrier to keep items from being thrown to the highway below.

Gaston Hall is now just a memory as only the two wings of Thompson Hall are still standing. One wing of Thompson has been gutted and is ready for demolition, while the other wing is waiting its own gutting.

The east side expansion for Jones AT&T Stadium has not quite begun, though there are signs of it beginning soon. A construction fence has been put up around the site and a number of construction trailers have been set up.

Moving back off campus, the exterior brickwork on the new Overton Hotel and Conference Center is almost complete and The Centre II project continues at break neck speed.
