New TTU Campus Pictures - 1/29/2012

This is a large group of random shots of campus from this morning. I realized its been a long time since I just walked around campus while the light is good and took random shots with no particular subject in mind. The Dan Law Field renovation is the only thing I had planned to shoot when I got to campus this morning.

As for the Dan Law Field renovation, they only have two sections left of the canopy to install and they continue to install the chairbacks. All of the windows are now in place in the pressbox and suites.

This large group includes shots of the new Kent R. Hance chapel, the new residence and dining hall at 19th and Boston, the Dan Law Field renovation, the new Rawls Golf Course clubhouse, and new development in North Overton.

The roof tiles are being added to the chapel and they have also started sidewalks and landscaping around the new building.

The new chairback seats are going in at Dan Law Field while the canopy over those seats is about a third done. The new professional grade backstop is also being installed and windows are being installed in the suites and pressbox.

What I thought was going to be a relocation of the right field light standard to a new location, is actually a support pole for the new backstop system. There is one of this support poles down the left field line as well.

Large trees have been planted around the main entrance and they were getting ready to lay brick for the larger Double-T that will be just outside the main entrance.

The season opener is just around the corner and the renovation of Dan Law Field is moving along at a rapid pace.

This group of pictures was shot this afternoon. A lot still has to be done before the season starts, but a lot has been done over the last couple of weeks.

Spring classes began at Texas Tech began yesterday and business students stepped inside the brand new Jerry Rawls College of Business Administration Building for the first time.

The new building is located west of Dan Law Field on the north side of campus.

Most of the glass has been installed in the new club seating area at Dan Law Field and steel for the new suites and pressbox are beginning to wrap around the stands towards the third base side.

The finishing touches are being put on the College of Business for opening on December 30th.

This group consists of the English/Philosophy/Education complex courtyard, the Dan Law Field renovation, the Jerry Rawls College of Business, the seating expansion at the Rocky Johnson softball complex, the new UMC addition, and the Rawls Course clubhouse.

More steel is going up around Dan Law Field and glass is going in on the new club seating area.

All the construction fences have come down around the college of business and a lot of landscape work is being done at this time.

The new seating expansion is underway at Rocky Johnson Field. New seats are being added behind each dugout to expand the capacity of the stadium.

Steel is now going up on the Rawls Course clubhouse.

The exterior brick and stonework is going up on the chapel and on part of the new residence hall. New steelwork is going up on Dan Law field in the area that will hold the suites and pressbox. One of the towers that will house the elevator is also visible.

The picture of the week features one of the Administration Building bell towers caught in a reflection of a puddle of water after a spring thunderstorm.

This shot is one of my early shots of campus and is probably my favorite of any that I have taken over the last six and a half years. I've even sold a number of prints of this shot as well.

The sidewalk that this shot was taken on no longer exists and it used to be just outside of the old bookstore that was located on the corner of 15th and Akron.

I have people tell me that the picture is upside down, but if you turn it the other way, there is no physical way the picture could be taken.

The holiday lights being removed from large wooden spools is a familer sight across campus during October and November. Crews string up strand after strand of lights for the annual Carol of Lights on the Texas Tech campus.

The photo above was taken during the month of January when crews were busy taking down the lights and putting them back on the spools to put into storage until the next holiday season.

A little disappointed that Tech does not have the bell towers lit up on the Admin Building along with the fountains across campus. I realize they may not have the bell towers lit up because they are renovating the third and second floors of the building, but they have not had the towers fully lit up for some time now. Some great photo opps are being missed.

Texas Tech Baseball Stadium to Get New Name

Once the renovations are complete at Dan Law Field, the stadium will have a new name. The facility will be call Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

The renovations that began earlier this summer will be completed by the end of January and in time for the 2012 baseball season.

Dan Law Field is currently undergoing a $5 million renovation.

The scoreboard in the United Spirit Arena displays the number 880 to represent former Texas Tech men's basketball coach Bobby Knight becoming the all-time winningest coach in NCAA history. The suites that will be positioned down the right file line are now taking shape. The new suites are going to make Dan Law feel a lot bigger.

The Texas Tech football team has a new video they play on the Jones AT&T Stadium jumbotron as the Red Raiders run onto the field. Fans saw the video for the first time before yesterday's Texas Tech - Texas State game.

Here is a new round of shots from around campus taken during the lunch hour today.

This group includes shots of the new Kent Hance Chapel, the new residence hall, the Dan Law Field renovation, the Jerry Rawls College of Business, and a few of Jones AT&T Stadium.

The wall supports are now going up on the chapel. They have cleared the land where the old women's gym was located and are prepping it for the rest of the new residence and dining hall.

They continue to dig out the old elevator shaft at Dan Law Field. Landscaping is going in around the College of Business.

There should be pretty good cell phone reception this fall at Jones AT&T Stadium. They have installed portable transmitter equipment in each section of The Jones and along both the east and west side buildings.

One of my shots of a wrapped Will Rogers and Soapsuds statue made the cover of the September/October Texas Techsan alumni magazine.

The picture was taken last fall during football season.

One of the editors of the magazine saw some of my shots on the blog and asked me to submit three shots and they picked the one below for the cover of the September/October edition.

Had the opportunity once again to shoot pictures for the Knights of Columbus "Tech Knight" Football Kickoff.

The evening featured a brisket and sausage dinner, appearences by Raider Red, the Goin' Band, the Tech spirit squads, an auction, a gun raffle and special guest speakers including Red Raider head football coach Tommy Tuberville, former Red Raider football player Rodney Allison, athletic director Kirby Hocutt, head Texas Tech men's basketball coach Billy Gillispie, and former Dallas Cowboy Tony Casillas.

Saddle Tramps Honor Long-Time Broadcaster Jack Dale

Jack Dale, the long-time broadcaster and "Voice of the Red Raiders" passed away on Friday after a battle with cancer.

The Texas Tech Saddle Tramps honored Dale's 50 years of broadcasting Red Raider sporting events by ringing the Victory Bells 50 times on Tuesday afternoon. The Will Rogers and Soapsuds statue near Memorial Circle was also wrapped in black crepe paper.

Maybe I need to take vacation a little more often. Took off a couple of days last week and it seems things have really gotten going construction wise around campus. Decided to take the last day of vacation and get a small set of campus shots.

The old women's gym was still standing Wednesday evening when I left campus after work. This morning, only one wall remains standing.

The renovation of Dan Law Field has officially begun. They were removing the perimeter fence from around the stadium when I drove by this morning.
